WIC is a Supplemental Nutrition Program for low income Women, Infants and Children. This program helps pregnant women, postpartum women and young children (less than 5 years of age) eat well and stay healthy.

How do I qualify?
To qualify you must be in an eligible category:
- Pregnant woman
- Postpartum woman
- Infant or child under 5 years old
- Live or work in the San Fernando or Santa Clarita Valleys
- Meet income guidelines
What do I need to bring to my first appointment?
1. Proof of income
Such as a paycheck stub, tax return, Medi-Cal card or letter from employer
2. Proof of address
Such as a utility bill, rent receipt or any letter received through the US mail
3. Identification
Such as a driver’s license, passport, student ID, birth certificate or immunization card
4. Medical information
Current height and weight and current blood test for anemia for children over 6 months old

Nutrition Education
Nutrition Education is the program benefit that makes WIC part of your healthcare program. Families who participate in the WIC program have better birth outcomes, have less iron-deficiency anemia and learn useful information and skills that promote healthy habits for life, thus helping to reduce childhood obesity.
Education can be given either through personalized nutrition counseling or in group classes. Some examples of topics include:
• Smart shopping
• Healthy eating for pregnancy
• Healthy cooking
• Feeding your children
• Breastfeeding support groups
• Dental health
• Physical activity
• Other group nutrition classes as suggested by participants
