The COVID-19 pandemic may have prevented us from celebrating National Health Center Week together this year. However, it will not stop NEVHC health care champions from continuing to guide you towards better health. FIT-N-FUN at Home with NEVHC

When it comes to chronic disease prevention, it helps to start early. Join NEVHC’s Dr. Teda Arunrut for our Fit-N-Fun at Home segment to learn how physical activity can help people of all ages prevent chronic disease. There is a recommendation for every member of the family.

Cooking at Home with NEVHC

Need some ideas for healthy meals? Join CalFresh Healthy Living Program Manager Denise Torres for a cooking demonstration to help you introduce healthy fruits and vegetables into your meals! The recipe is kid-friendly so we encourage you to invite your kids to participate!

Gardening at Home with NEVHC

Join CalFresh Healthy Living Program Coordinator Monsi Portillo for guidance on how to start a herb or vegetable garden at home! This workshop takes into consideration that people may not have yard space to plant gardens. Monsi will teach you how to plant a container garden and answer questions about garden care and maintenance.

Diabetes Prevention with NEVHC

Did you know that 1 in 3 people living in the U.S. is at risk for Type 2 diabetes? Join Health Education Program Manager Maria Guerrero for guidance on how you can prevent the onset of Type 2 diabetes. Maria will answer some of the most frequently asked questions about pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes and provide fun tips for healthy living.

Advocating for Community Health

Join NEVHC’s Government and Community Relations Manager Brian Gavidia to learn how you can champion your community’s health through advocacy and civic engagement. Brian will offer simple ways to advocate from home that include direct digital advocacy efforts like e-mailing legislators, participating in tweet-storms and more!

Exploring Diversity through Storytelling with NEVHC Providers

Discussions about systemic racism are at the forefront of today’s society. Join NEVHC Providers to learn how story-telling and reading with your child can provide a pathway to understanding diversity and inclusion. An age-appropriate reading list will also be shared.

Exploring Diversity through Storytelling with NEVHC Providers

Journey with us through this story of meeting new experiences and leaning on the support of our loved ones as our main character goes for an adventurous walk with her mother to her local health center. Join NEVHC provider Dr. Teda Arunrut for Walking Together, a children’s book written by Jade Mathieson and illustrated by Louwrisa Blaauw. This reading is performed in both English and Thai.

Stories can reflect valuable lessons, spark imagination and inspire a love of words and language in your child. They also illustrate the wonders of our wide world by representing diverse cultures, languages and families.Join NEVHC’s Ellen Monaco, N.P. as she shares an inspiring story of exploring the unknown, overcoming challenges and the value of friendship in The Snowman and the Dragon.

Many of us have wished we could look or sound like everybody else, but have learned that our differences are special, natural and unique! Join NEVHC provider Dr. Alicia Lwin as she reads from Lara the Yellow Ladybird, an unforgettable children’s book by Catherine Holtzhausen, Martha Evans and Nadene Kriel. It can help begin a valuable conversation about diversity and loving our unique selves!
