Health Education

Education for good health begins with people. Health education aims to improve health skills, behavior and attitudes by giving one a sense of responsibility for their own health. Through health education, patients make positive health decisions which allow them to live longer, better lives and control their medical conditions.

Northeast Valley Health Corporation’s (NEVHC) Health Education Department strives to be a leader in offering patient and community education services.  The goal of the department is to promote healthy lifestyles, improve patient knowledge and skills to manage healthy conditions, and provide resources and referrals appropriate for enhancing health and wellness.

The Health Education Department offers group classes for the following:

  • Blood Pressure
  • Diabetes Prevention
  • Nutrition
  • Prenatal
  • Weight Mangement – Youth Fit (Children & Teens)
  • Healthy Habits for Families
  • Chronic Disease Management

Community Outreach

The Health Education Department participates in Community Health Fairs and outreach events.  In addition, the department offers written materials, such as handouts, booklets, flyers, brochures and referrals to community resources.

 

Teen Services

Through a state funded grant “Information and Education (I&E) Program,” Health Educators provide training, workshops and resources at traditional and non-traditional school settings as well as community organizations.  The focus of this program is on adolescent social issues, pregnancy prevention, sexually transmitted infection and HIV prevention and access to quality health care.

Individual Counseling for Smoking Cessation

The Health Education Department offers information, referrals, group and individual phone counseling on smoking cessation.
