HEALTH LITERACY MONTH
For over 20 years, October has been recognized as Health Literacy Month. Personal health literacy is defined as individuals having the ability to find, understand and use information and services for health-related decisions for themselves and others; health literacy is essential for patients to improve their health outcomes. For nearly 50 years, Northeast Valley Health Corporation (NEVHC) has addressed health disparities such as this by providing culturally and linguistically competent health services. Working to address health disparities is of utmost importance during turbulent times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, to ensure you remain healthy.
NEVHC’S JOURNEY TO CONNECTED CARE
Recently, NEVHC’s Director of Quality and Health Education Debra Rosen had a virtual interview with mHealthIntelligence. In April 2020, NEVHC began offering video and telephone visits to ensure access to care for over 73,000 patients. This year, we are taking it to the next step by implementing Rimidi’s FHIR-enabled remote patient monitoring (RPM) platform to record clinic measurements for patients during their video and phone visits. Through the implementation of RPM, we have been able to mitigate gaps in care, better support clinical decision making and achieve quality measures. To read more, please visit the full article.
NEVHC CEO NAMED AS INFLUENTIAL LEADER
NEVHC’s Chief Executive Officer Kimberly Wyard was recently announced as one of the San Fernando Valley’s most influential leaders in the region when she made the top 200 list published by the San Fernando Business Journal. Ms. Wyard’s commitment to serving the community is evident throughout her 47-year career with NEVHC and her board roles with Healthcare L.A. and the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County. She first joined NEVHC a year after the first health center was opened and earned the title of CEO in 1997. Her excellent leadership, along with 1,063 employees, is leading our organization through one of the most challenging times in NEVHC’s 48-year history. DONOR SPOTLIGHT: SENATOR HERTZBERG AND CONGRESSMAN TONY CÁRDENAS
Senator Hertzberg and Congressman Tony Cárdenas secured state funding for NEVHC to purchase new radiology equipment for the San Fernando Health Center. San Fernando Health Center is expecting to increase the Radiology Department’s patient intake by 50% with the equipment lasting up to 20 years! Thank you, Senator Bob Hertzberg and Congressman Tony Cárdenas! The dedication from our elected officials helps NEVHC expand its breadth of providing health services to community members.
