Understanding National Health Center Week
National Health Center Week (NHCW) is an annual celebration held in the second week of August to recognize the vital role that community health centers play in providing high-quality, accessible healthcare to millions of people. To increase awareness of America’s 1,400+ Community Health Centers, NHCW highlights their contributions to improving health outcomes and reducing healthcare disparities amongst underserved communities.
Our theme for National Health Center Week 2024, “Powering Communities Through Caring Connections,” highlighted NEVHC’s commitment to fostering supportive relationships in our community.
Mobile Health Center Unveiling
Held at El Cariso Regional Park in Sylmar, the event brought together donors, elected officials, NEVHC staff and board members for a morning of connection and celebration. Attendees enjoyed refreshments before hearing remarks from NEVHC CEO Kim Wyard, Congressman Tony Cárdenas and Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez.
We also extend our gratitude to our supporters—Alcar Insurance, Valley Presbyterian and Vasquez + Company—for their presence at the event.
The event concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Ms. Wyard and Congressman Cárdenas, marking NEVHC’s continued commitment to providing vital health services to people experiencing homelessness.

Northeast Valley Health Corporation was incorporated in 1971 by a group of San Fernando Valley civic leaders who envisioned establishing a healthcare system that catered to the medical needs of the local community. They opened San Fernando Health Center in 1973 and celebrated its dedication with the late U.S. Senator Ted. Kennedy. Today, NEVHC has grown to 14 health centers in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys and continue to serve the uninsured and the medically underserved patients with limited financial resources. Nearly 70,000 patients receive medical, dental and behavioral health care at our health centers every year. NEVHC, one of the nation’s largest community health centers, is a nonprofit Joint Commission accredited Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).
