The I Support You (ISU) Employee Giving Campaign presents NEVHC staff with an opportunity to support patient programs that improve health outcomes and help address social determinants of health. In 2022, the ISU funded 13 programs! Thanks to the generosity of our staff donors, these programs allowed us to take extra steps in addressing Women’s and Children’s Health, Early Literacy, Homelessness, Food Insecurity and Health Monitoring.

Cuddles of Love

Supports expectant mothers with warm and welcoming baby showers that provide newborn essentials like strollers and baby clothes.

Throughout 2022, Cuddles of Love utilized ISU funds to purchase 311 baby clothing sets, 19 strollers, and hosted on-site baby showers for expecting mothers.

 

Program Champion Vilma Champion states, “The 2022 highlight of the Cuddles of Love program are the baby showers that took place, allowing participants to receive education about their OB delivery services, meet their pediatrician/support staff and celebrate the arrival of their newborn.”

Meal in a Card

Helps patients affected by or infected with HIV who are experiencing homelessness or other life impacting situations to purchase a meal.

Thanks to our generous staff donors, the Meal in a Card program purchased 550 meal gift cards for patients in need of food on an emergency basis. 

 

Program Champion Yusseth Sanchez states, “This campaign started as a way to help our patients obtain a meal for the day. We are grateful for every employee who donated towards this campaign, and on behalf of every patient who has received a Meal in a Card gift card, we thank you!”

Home Blood Pressure Monitoring

Provides patients with a home blood pressure monitor take care of their health from the comfort of their home.

The Home Blood Pressure Monitor Program purchased 172 blood pressure monitors for patients with uncontrolled hypertension, empowering patients to take an active role in their hypertension management!   

 

Program Champion Diego Emestica states, “As part of a comprehensive menu of NEVHC services, the RPM Health Educators and Family Medicine Care Coordinators collaborated to educate the patients on nutrition, medication adherence and optimal self-monitoring.”

Little by Little School Readiness

An early literacy program that partners with NEVHC WIC locations to distribute books to children and their families.

Little by Little utilized ISU funds to mail and purchase over 4,000 books, which served a total of 1,263 families in the WIC program. 

 

Program Champion Yanci Panameno states, “Knowing that WIC families are coming into our offices to just pick up books is an indication that there is need of free books in our community, and that many families do value early literacy. We can hear the joy from children when they pick out their book titles to take home.”

Reach Out and Read

Provides pediatric patients 0-5 years of age with bilingual and age-appropriate books to develop their literacy skills and increase curiosity.

Reach out and Read purchased nearly 4,000 bilingual children’s books and distributed nearly 8,000 books throughout 2022.

 

Pediatric Medical Director Dr. Johnson mentions, “Our pediatric clinicians consistently note that giving a book to our patients, sharing early literacy anticipatory guidance and helping families advance early relational health is one of the highlights of our day.”

Homeless Hygiene Kits

Offers hygiene kits, essential clothing, snacks and TAP cards to our homeless neighbors to assist them in maintaining personal hygiene.

The Homeless Hygiene Kits program purchased bottled waters, granola bars, breakfast bars, snacks, t-shirts for men/women, sports bras, underwear for men/women, socks and blankets. Throughout the year, the program distributed over 400 hygiene kits/items!

 

Program Champion Alejandra Villanueva states, “The highlight of 2022 was being able to give out tents and sleeping bags to patients in need as well as a snack when they were hungry, especially with homelessness increasing. It also allows them to follow up on their medical appointments.

Breathe Easy Asthma Program

The Breathe Easy Asthma Program allowed for NEVHC to provide a non-toxic cleaning kit, medication bag and a folder with health education materials to 164 patients who attended the Asthma Health Education Classes in 2022.    

Harvesting Health

The Harvesting Health program purchased 14 bags of potting soil, 14 greenhouse boxes and 2 packs of fruit and vegetable transplants. They also distributed 300 reusable grocery bags filled with fresh produce and educational resources to patients.

Diabetes & Weight Management

The Diabetes & Weight Management Program provided 500 patients with grocery store gift cards for attending group health education classes.

Lactation Education Services

The lactation department assisted over 1,000 patients in need of lactation/breastfeeding support! Thanks to ISU General Funds, the program purchased nearly 70  gift cards for new mothers who attended lactation visits.   

WIC Breastfeeding

WIC’s Breastfeeding program purchased 345 nursing bras and 126 nursing aprons! To date, the program has benefited 403 WIC participants, and hopes to reach more this year!  

FIT Kit Mail Out Program

The FIT Kit Mail-Out Program utilized General Funds to purchase postage for 2,993 Fit Kits to be mailed out to eligible patients! Thanks to the program, we have seen an improvement in colorectal cancer screening (CRC) rates for 2022.

Breast Cancer Awareness

The Women’s Health Department used ISU General Funds to purchase hundreds of breast cancer awareness marketing materials to encourage patients to schedule their annual mammograms. Materials were distributed between 10 health centers – reaching over 1,000 patients.
