It’s hard to believe we’re already more than halfway through 2022; it feels like we just welcomed the new year! Although we may not enjoy how quickly the year seems to be passing, now is the perfect time to reflect on what has passed and what is to come. If you made health-related resolutions at the beginning of 2022, now is the perfect time to revisit them! For help reaching these health goals, consider talking to your doctor, utilizing NEVHC’s resources, such as our Health Education Department’s classes, and following our social media channels to learn about more resources NEVHC offers to patients. Use the next 5 months to reach your personal health goals!

Gardening for Health
We recently held our first “Gardening for Health” Shared Medical Visit at the San Fernando Health Center. A shared medical visit occurs when multiple patients are seen by a physician as a group for follow-up care or management of chronic conditions, and uses an interactive setting, like the garden at the San Fernando Health Center. In June’s shared medical visit, Dr. Campos led a discussion about how using herbs and vegetables in meals helps improve health, and Community Wellness Program Manager, Denise Torres, led a gardening activity. Patients planted tomato, onion and squash seeds into mini greenhouses that they were able to take home.
Shared medical visits encourage patients to ask questions and share concerns and experiences; patients learn from the healthcare team and from each other in this environment.
For more information on upcoming shared medical visits, please contact Denise Torres at 818-270-9508 or DeniseTorres@nevhc.org.
NEVHC Seeking Patients for Board of Directors
Did you know that more than half of NEVHC’s Board of Directors is made up of NEVHC patients? We are in search of current patients who are passionate about healthcare equity and are interested in joining the Board. As a member of our Board, you’ll help inform decisions for our health centers’ policies and governance. Being on the Board is a great way to gain leadership experience while giving back to your community. To check qualifications, requirements and apply, visit the Board Recruitment page.
Thank you to Our 2022 Sponsors
We’d like to thank all of our National Health Center Week 2022 sponsors! Their contributions will help us open the new SCV Dental & Wellness Center in Santa Clarita in 2023, that will not only provide dental services but other crucial services to the community. We are grateful for their investment in our community and patients’ well-being.
